Fall Semester 2016

President’s Message
Welcome to the new academic year. I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Welcoming Reception to be held this year at Dorothy B. Oven Park on Wednesday, September 14 and am encouraging everyone to attend this event. Please bring a guest who may be interested in joining our group! This event is a great way to catch up with friends who may have been gone all summer! Plans have been made for the great, popular monthly events together with the varied interest groups, providing chances to socialize in restaurants and in homes, to discuss interesting books, to sew items to be donated to worthy causes or to attend great travel logs prepared by our members. Our scholarship winners will be invited to this event, and this is a good opportunity for our members to meet them. We thank all of you for your generous contributions to the scholarship fund! We know your generosity will continue, enabling us to award more scholarships in the future! I would also like to encourage you to volunteer to help out with the Interest Groups. Many of the chairpersons of the Interest Groups continue to serve and would appreciate help.

The Alice B. Nichols Scholarship was established in 1986. Since 1994, the Club has been awarding scholarships to needy, returning, undergraduate students, who maintain a high GPA. Originally, the scholarships were for $500 and given only to full-time students at the Tallahassee campus. Now, full-time students receive as much as $700, and part-time students and students at the Panama City campus are also eligible for awards. Thanks to your generous donations and our successful, annual Billy Bowlegs 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk, we have been able to award close to 170 scholarships in the last 21 years. We have received 58 applications for the Fall semester and are in the process of choosing the awardees. We hope to meet them at the Fall Reception. We thank you for your generous support and hope we can continue to count on it for this worthwhile endeavor. Please consider giving more than what you gave last year. Donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted and acknowledged. Please bring your check made out to The Faculty & Friends Club of FSU to the Welcoming Reception on September 14 or mail it to the treasurer, Eberhard Roeder, 6854 Hanging Vine Way, Tallahassee FL 32317.

Beth asks that you contact her earlier that week either at beth_charness@hotmail.com or by calling her at 385-0500 to let her know if you plan to attend and what you are planning to bring. Beth and her committee would like to have an early count for planning purposes. Beth loves to decorate their house, and it is a real treat. Most of us come dressed in fanciful costumes. Where it is by no means necessary to do so, we always love to see those terrific costumes.
