Spring Semester 2016

President’s Message – Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year to Everyone!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! The Faculty and Friends Club had a great year in 2015, and we are looking forward to another wonderful year in 2016! We have already had one successful club-wide event – the Billy Bowlegs run/walk – and plans are in the works for many more. The details follow below and in succeeding newsletters.
Thanks to your contributions, the scholarship program continues to be successful. We awarded six scholarships of $700 each for the Fall 2015 semester; with three of the students continuing during Spring 2016, we are awarding one full and two part scholarships this semester. This program depends solely on the Billy Bowlegs run/walk and your contributions. The more you give, the more we can award to needy, deserving students at FSU. Please consider giving more to this fund.

The Bowlegs race on Saturday, January 9 was a huge success with 201 runners and 9 walkers. The weather was perfect, and we thank all the volunteers who helped at this event in particular the co-chairs Larry Giunipero and Bill Hillison. A delicious Brunch followed at Renegade Grill for 18 members.
Fitting in with our successful Bowlegs 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk, our member Mark Mahoney writes a health/fitness blog for the Tallahassee Democrat pretty much every Tuesday. The one on January 12 dealt with the issue of physical activity, either running or walking and focused on the health benefits to be accrued from these types of activities. The article is titled Whether walking or running, exercise routine will get results. Please contact Annelise at aleysieffer@gmail.com if you would like a copy via e-mail.
