President’s Message
Welcome to the new academic year. I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Welcoming Reception to again be held at Dorothy B. Oven Park on Wednesday, September 13 and am encouraging everyone to attend this event. Please bring a guest who may be interested in joining our group! This event is a great way to catch up with friends and get to make new ones. Plans have been made for the great, popular monthly events together with the varied interest groups, providing chances to socialize in restaurants and in homes, to discuss interesting books, to sew items to be donated to worthy causes or to attend great travel logs prepared by our members. Our scholarship winners will be invited to this event, and this is a good opportunity for our members to meet them. We thank all who generously contribute to the scholarship fund! We know your generosity will continue, enabling us to award more scholarships in the future! I would also like to encourage you to volunteer to help out with the Interest Groups. Many of the chairpersons of the Interest Groups continue to serve and would appreciate help.

The Alice B. Nichols Scholarship was established in 1986. Since 1994, the Club has been awarding scholarships to needy, returning, undergraduate students, who maintain a high GPA. Originally, the scholarships were for $500 and given only to full-time students at the Tallahassee campus. Now, full-time students generally receive as much as $600, with part-time students and students at the Panama City campus also eligible for awards. Thanks to your generous donations and our successful, annual Billy Bowlegs 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk, we will be close to awarding 200 scholarships by the end of this our 23rd year. We have received applications for the Fall semester and are in the process of choosing the awardees. We hope to meet them at the Fall Reception. We thank you for your generous support and hope we can continue to count on it for this worthwhile endeavor. Donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted and acknowledged. Please bring your check made out to The Faculty & Friends Club of FSU to the Welcoming Reception on September 13 or mail it to the treasurer, Eberhard Roeder, 6854 Hanging Vine Way, Tallahassee FL 32317.
