The Faculty & Friends Club has awarded scholarships since 1972. In 1986, we established the Scholarship Fund. In 1994, because of the increase in the number of mature students pursuing a degree at FSU, we changed the emphasis of the scholarship program. Under this policy, we awarded numerous scholarships of $500 per semester to needy, returning, full-time undergraduate students with an option to extend the scholarship for one or more semesters.
The University Club Scholarship Fund, now called the Alice B. Nichols Scholarship was established in 1986. Since 1994, the Club had been awarding one or more $500 scholarships per semester to needy, returning, full-time, undergraduate students, who maintain a GPA of at least 3.2. Where several years ago, we began adding some partial scholarships to part-time students, we have now lowered the age to 28 and have occasionally awarded to students with a GPA as low 3.0, with the award currently at $700 per semester. Thanks to your generous donations and our successful, annual Billy Bowlegs 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk, by the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, we will have awarded more than 250 scholarships to these highly deserving students. We hope you get to meet some of these students each year at the Fall Reception, and some of the awardees come help with the Bowlegs 5k in January. We thank you for your generous support and hope we can continue to count on you for this worthwhile endeavor. Donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted.
