December 1998 Newsletter

President’s Message
Just a note to keep you up to date on our activities this fall.  On Thursday night, October 29, about 50 people gathered at Neddy and DeWitt Sumners’ home on 6th Avenue to eat chili and enjoy Halloween festivities. Attending were Mickey and Minnie Mouse (Glee and Myles Hollander), a man in black (Ron Braswell), several Seminole fans (Mary Ann Braswell, Fred and Annelise Leysieffer, Alice and Gene Nichols, Johnnye and Heinz Luebkemann, and Kermit Rose), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (DeWitt Sumners), elegant courtlady  (Neddy Sumners), Bobby Soxers (David and Diane Stuart), reminiscent of MASH (Yvonne Miels and Homer Ooten), Japanese Visitors (Sue and David Edelson), Mardi Gras Krewe (Ginny and Ron Blazek), English hiker (Don Rapp), dressed for the symphony, (Patsy Rapp), cosmopolitan lady (Julia Goldstein), Cats in the Hats (Marietta Schroeder and Sherry Hart), witches (Vicki Miles, Mrs.Sumners and Kathleen Rose), New York Rockette (Eleanor Hale) and date (Giff Hale), Chicago Mobster and date (John Waters and Shirley Zahn) & several more revelers in different costumes.  Marjorie Turnbull  surprised us with a visit later in the evening.  Thanks to Homer Ooten and his committee for planning such a fun evening for us, and a special thanks to Neddy and DeWitt for hosting this great event.
Many thanks to Diane Stuart for arranging for tickets to attend Mozart’s wonderful opera “Don Giovanni” preceded by an interesting lecture about the performance.
Special thanks to Wolfgang Adolph for designing and developing our very own website (see below).  Please use this site to stay informed about our activities, and please contact your editor Annelise Leysieffer if you have suggestions, additions or corrections for this new way to advertise our club activities.
The holidays are fast approaching.  Be sure to plan to meet your friends and start the holiday season by attending the Annual Holiday Reception which this year will be held in the Lobby of the new Pepper Building from 5-7 PM on December 4th.  This will be a great opportunity to introduce friends who are not members to the Club’s events.  Hope to see you there.
