President’s Message
This is an EXCITING time of the year. We welcome the new academic year with fresh enthusiasm. We have rejuvenated ourselves over the summer break. Once again, the University Club continues its rich tradition of camaraderie by welcoming new faculty and A&P staff to the Tallahassee area, and of renewing friendships with returning members of the academic community.
The University Club is synonymous with activities. Vice Presidents Marietta Schroeder and Beth Wright have assembled a great program of entertainment and activities for club members and guests during this academic year. The first such activity is the “Welcoming Reception” for new and returning faculty, administrative & professional staff, retirees, and others which will be held on Friday, September 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in Beth Moor Lounge in the Longmire Building. Please join us, welcome past presidents of the Club, learn of other scheduled events and of the “special interest groups” in which you can join and participate. Each activity, event, and interest group is the result of significant planning from your enthusiastic Board members and from the Chairs of the events and/or interest groups.
The University Club is pleased to be able to award scholarships to deserving, returning students. Currently, three such students are recipients of these scholarships. They will be invited to the Welcoming Reception, and we hope that you will have a chance to meet them.
It is an honor for me to serve as your President for this very special Millennium year. I look forward to the activities, the sharing of past memories, and the creation of new ones which will last long into the future. Suggestions and ideas for other activities/events will happily be received by all Board members and interest group chairs.
