PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The spring semester is off to a great start. On Saturday, January 15, we began the year with the annual Billy Bowlegs 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk with more than 80 participants enjoying the beautiful, cool morning. Following the race, 38 members and friends enjoyed a wonderful brunch in the Renegade Grill. We thank Larry Giunipero, who has chaired this race for the past 21 years. We netted $1,161 towards the scholarships, and we thank the many Club members who participated or volunteered to make this event such a continual success. The following Sunday, January 23, 80 members spent a terrific evening celebrating the Year of the Rooster as we ushered in the Chinese New Year with delectable dishes at Lucy Ho’s Oriental Bistro. On February 8 about 30 members listened and danced to nostalgic music from the Big Band Era at the Valentine’s Dance in The American Legion Hall by Lake Ella. Thanks to Barbara Elam for arranging for the food. The interest groups are flourishing with well-planned meetings with interesting programs.
On Saturday, March 26, we are being treated to a tour of the Moore Athletic Center Sports Medicine Section. The Center is a fascinating place and should make an interesting tour. The Tour will be preceded by lunch at the Renegade Grill in the Seminole Golf Clubhouse. We hope to see a lot of you at one or both of the events. On Thursday, April 21, our own Don Rapp will entertain us at the Annual Dinner, which will once again be held at the Capital City Country Club.

University Club Scholarship Fund (the old name remains)
Recent contributions have been made to the Scholarship Fund in memory of David Stuart and the mother of Cindy Wise. This is an excellent way to honor deceased friends. Please send contributions to Alice Nichols, 3386 W. Lakeshore Dr., 32312. She will pass the check on to the treasurer and will inform the family of the memorial. A fourth scholarship was added for the spring semester bringing the total to seven $500 scholarships for this school year.
The following are excerpts from the 2004-05 Scholarship recipients’ letters. They indicate that our efforts are worthwhile:
“On the telephone you mentioned that this was a small scholarship.
However, I found it to be a huge amount. My family is struggling fianancially for me to complete my education and this money will ease the stress for this semester. Please thank those who contribute to this fund.” Cynthia Boyd (has 4 children, one handicapped)
“The Faculty & Friends Club will never know my true appreciation for this gift because I can only say thank you. I hope that someday in the future I will be able to extend such a gift to another student. Your Club serves as a wonderful role model and makes me proud to be a member of the FSU family.” Eleanor Logrip (has 3 children)
“I would like to thank the Faculty & Friends Club for the scholarship. Because of this scholarship I was able to devote more time to my academic studies.” Marilyn McGhee (has 2 children)
“I want to thank the Faculty & Friends Club for the scholarship. This was the first semester that I have been able to purchase all the books I needed for my classes.” Kathleen Harriman (has 2 children)
“I was a stay at-home mom for many years and returned to school as a single mom. My work here at FSU has been challenging and rewarding and I appreciate your contribution to my education.” Heather Fritschle (has 2 children)
