PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
On September 9, the Faculty and Friends Club of the Florida State University had their annual reception at the Tallahassee Garden Center. Thanks to Josephine Ang, who convinced me that the Garden Center would be a warm, cozy, and elegant site for our annual event, and thanks also to the Board members, my wife Barbara, and all the others who helped to prepare for and clean-up after the event. Positive feedback from members convinced me that everyone had a good time and that the reception was a great beginning to the academic year.
On the stage at the Garden Center, I welcomed everyone, talked about our interest groups and briefly mentioned some of the up-coming monthly Faculty and Friends Club events. This Fall, the Halloween Party at the home of Beth and Neil Charness, a field trip to the Magnet Lab, hosted by Josephine, and the annual Holiday party at Dorothy Oven Park, are the main club-wide events.
After my introduction, Anne Rowe welcomed those attending on behalf of Florida State University and President Barron, and then Diane Olsen and Alice Nichols came to the stage and described our scholarship mission.
Because of some personal commitments before the reception, I forgot to formally welcome everyone back and to invite all those interested in joining the Faculty and Friends Club in our last news letter, so I am now welcoming back our members and all those who might be interested in joining our activities. I also want to graciously remind the 50-60 past members, who have yet to submit their dues, to please and hopefully do so to remain in good standing in the Club! I am looking forward to a great year for the Faculty and Friends Club of FSU.
Sincerely,
Peter T. Cottrell
Celebrate Halloween with Beth and Neil Charness
Saturday, October 30 – 6:00 p.m. until…
Join us for a festive and fun-filled evening at the home of Beth and Neil Charness at 1325 Peacefield Place off Thomasville Road near Woodgate. The theme of the Halloween Party is a turkey-breast fright fest. Beth will be making a wickedly wonderful witch as the main course, creepy-crawly coleslaw as a side dish, and a lobotomy elixir punch. The attendees are requested to bring spooky sides, body part bites, or spooktacular sweets. Please let Beth know preferably by Monday, October 25 either to beth_charness@hotmail.com or by calling her at 385-0500 to let her know if you are you planning to attend and what you are planning to bring. Beth needs to have an early count for planning purposes. We also need to give Beth and her committee a general idea of how many people to expect.
