President’s Message – Happy New Year!!!
We welcome the New Year and wish for all you that 2014 may be a special year filled with good health, great friendships and much happiness. We thank you for your continued support of our varied events, interest groups and scholarship activities and look forward to seeing you in the New Year. We especially want to thank Diane Stuart, Linda & Bob Clickner, Barbara & John Elam, Dian & Chas LaTour and Carol & Bill Weissert for their dedicated work in making the Holiday Party at Dorothy B. Oven Park such a wonderful success. We also thank all who brought delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts for members to enjoy.
We begin 2014 with the 30th Bowlegs 5K Run & 1 Mile walk on Saturday the 18th. We thank Larry Giunipero and Bill Hillison for co-chairing the event with me. The race will be followed by the 10th Annual Bowlegs Brunch to be held in Renegade Grill. We hope to see many members and friends at both events. We encourage you to join us for the annual Chinese New Year’s celebration at Lucy Ho’s Azu on Sunday, January 26, to attend our Valentine’s Dance at the American Legion Hall at Lake Ella on Tuesday, February 11, and to come enjoy the festive Mardi Gras at the home of Linda & Bob Clickner on Saturday, March 1.

We challenge you to join us for our 30th Annual Bowlegs 5K Scholarship Race to benefit returning, undergraduate students at FSU. As this is our only formal fundraiser, do come walk or run with us before heading across the street to the Seminole Clubhouse for a delicious and congenial brunch in the Renegade Grill. The Brunch is $6 for Faculty Club members, who are either race participants or volunteers. The cost for other Club members and others, the cost is $10, the actual cost to the Club for the Brunch. Volunteers are needed to help direct traffic for the runners. Come dance or simply listen to the beautiful and lively music performed by members of the Tallahassee Swing Band including our own Bill Landing. Please mention that you are part of the Faculty & Friends Club to be eligible for the discounted price. Beverages are available for purchase at the American Legion Hall with some light refreshments provided by the Club. Outdoors Explorers

Alice B. Nichols Scholarship
Last fall, we awarded scholarships to five deserving students. Only some were full-time and received the full $500. With all five continuing this spring, we plan to again offer them scholarships. We thank the many of you who have so generously donated to our scholarship fund. We hope to see a record turnout of runners and walkers for this our 30th Bowlegs Race and Walk to further add to the scholarship account.
Obituary
We were very sorry to lose Shirley Baum, a gracious lady and close friend. Shirley served as president of the University Wives Club in 1955-56. Upon returning to FSU, she again immediately became involved with the club and served another term as president in 1984-85 the year the club changed name from the University Womens Club to the University Club of FSU.
