Come join us for the 31st Bowlegs 5k Run or 1 mile Walk for Scholarship on Saturday, January 10 at 9:00 a.m. at the entrance to the FAMU/FSU College of Engineering. The race is followed by a congenial Continental Breakfast, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Renegade Grill across the street from the FAMU/FSU College of Engineering in Innovation Park. To anybody interested in either running or walking, either request a flyer from me to this e-mail or register online at Gulfwinds.org Calendar (EventBrite.com). Please contact me if you are willing to volunteer by directing, or in most cases cheering on the runners, as they pass by you at crucial intersections. The cost of the breakfast is $5.00 for club participants and volunteers and $6.50 for club members and others not wishing to participate in the race with the amount to be paid at the brunch.
To further advertise our scholarship race, Annelise will be interviewed on the WTXL Channel 27 ABC Sunrise Show this coming Monday morning January 5. The show begins at 6:30 a.m. I must admit, I wish they had offered me a time slot for the Midday Show.
Friday, January 9, Gourmet Sampler is meeting at Westminster Oaks at 6:30 p.m. This delightful evening is scheduled to take place at 4449 Meandering Way in the St. Andrews Pub and the adjoining Oak Room. Bring an appetizer or dessert and your own wine or beer with soft drinks and coffee provided. Although Moira Desloge is the new chairperson, please let Barbara Elam know at blelam@embarqmail.com if you are planning to attend (unless you have already notified Barbara). The rooms are in the Parry Building. They are located between Oaks South (the large apartment building) and the Health Center (the last large building on the left as you drive in from the entry. There are large columns in front of the Parry building and the parking lot is on the right as you face the building.
On Saturday, January 10, Globetrotters will take place in the Maguire Learning Center at Westminster Oaks at 7:30 p.m. Homer Ooten will make the presentation titled: Iditarod Dog Sled Race in Alaska. Globetrotters began in January 1974, and the group is still going strong with wonderful presentations.

The cost is $30.00, all-inclusive except for alcoholic beverages. Barbara Elam, Chas La Tour and Annelise Leysieffer serve as board members of the Patrons Association at the School of Theatre. Our primary goal is to raise funds for scholarships for these amazing students. With that in mind, the Patrons board members have decided to hold a Wine Gala at Fresh Market on Thursday, February 26 7:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person with 100% of the proceeds going to the scholarships. Fresh Market will provide crab cakes, shrimp cocktails and other hors d’oeuvres together with the wine tasting while also offering up to 15% off on wine purchases. We will have tickets on hand with us at events or you can contact Annelise at aleysieffer@gmail.com.
We have sadly lost two members in December. John Ho passed away on December 15 on a flight from Hong Kong to Japan, and Fred Standley passed away at the end of the month. Our heartfelt condolences to Lucy Ho and to Jayne Standley.
