August 2015

Summer is coming to an end, which means it’s time to begin a new year with the Faculty and Friends Club! As always we have many activities planned! Your membership renewal form is enclosed in this newsletter, along with the schedule for the events for the year. The Fall Welcoming Reception will be held on September 30 at the Tallahassee Garden Center. I want to encourage everyone to attend this event, and to bring a guest who may be interested in joining our group! It’s a great way to catch up with friends who may have been gone all summer! Our scholarship winners will be invited to this event as well, and this is a good opportunity for our members to meet them. Thank you to all of you who have been so generous in your contributions to the Scholarship fund! I know your generosity will continue, and we will be able to award more scholarships in the future! I would also like to encourage you to volunteer to help out with the Interest Groups. Many of the chairpersons of the Interest Groups have served for many years, and would appreciate help.
See you at the Welcoming Reception!               Linda Clickner
Annual Welcoming Reception
Wednesday, September 30
– – 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Tallahassee Garden Center
507 North Calhoun Street
As always, we start the year with our Annual Welcoming Reception that as usual will take place in the Tallahassee Garden Center located between North Calhoun and North Gadsden Streets. You can enter the large parking area either from Carolina Street across from Westminster Gardens or from North Gadsden Street. There is a ramp at the back of the house for easy access. This event is a wonderful opportunity to visit with old and new friends. Come savor the delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts, primarily prepared by members. You can join or renew your membership and sign up for the many fascinating interest groups. These groups are a great way to get to know each other, and they serve as the mainstay of our Club. Please bring new faculty and friends and encourage current faculty to attend the reception to familiarize them with our organization. Also come meet and welcome our scholarship recipients.
If you have special delicacies, finger foods or desserts you would like to share with us, it will be much appreciated. Please e-mail Anne Thistle at dthistle@infionline.net with offers to bring food, to volunteer or if you have any questions. Please make sure to bring serving platters and utensils with your finger foods. The Garden Center imposes a rental fee per chair. While we will have some rental chairs available, we are asking willing members to bring some of their own. This request is made in an effort to limit our expenses and to keep our annual dues low. Please let Annelise Leysieffer know at aleysieffer@gmail.com if you are able to bring chairs.
