September 2019

President’s Message
On behalf of the Faculty & Friends Club of FSU, I welcome you to the new academic year. We look forward to seeing you at the Annual Welcoming Reception to be held at Dorothy B. Oven Park on Wednesday, September 25 and are encouraging everyone to attend this event. Please bring a guest who may be interested in joining our group! This event is a great way to catch up with friends and making new ones. Plans have been made for most of the regular popular monthly events together with the varied interest groups, providing chances to socialize in restaurants and in homes, to discuss interesting books, to sew items to be donated to worthy causes or to attend wonderful travel logs prepared by our members. Where Marshal Kapp has taken over leading the investment group, Josephine Ang is stepping down from Restaurant Roulette. Beth Charness has notified me that having hosted their fabulous Halloween party for the past ten years, they wish to abstain this year. Also with Halloween being on Thursday following Homecoming celebrations the week before, if anybody would like to step forward to host, I would suggest Wednesday, October 30 to give us all a chance to be home to welcome the many trick or treaters that show up every year on our doorsteps.

Where it is preferable that you mail the form and check in advance, you could bring them to the Welcoming Reception on September 25.
Thanks to your generous donations and our successful Billy Bowlegs 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk, we have been able to award approx. 215 scholarships during the past 25 years. We are in the process of choosing the awardees for the fall semester. Full-time students will receive as much as $600. We hope to meet them at the Fall Reception. We thank you for your generous support and hope we can continue to count on you for this worthwhile endeavor. Donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted and acknowledged.

Annual Welcoming Reception
Wednesday, September 25 – – 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Dorothy B. Oven Park
3205 Thomasville Road
As always, we start the year with our Annual Welcoming Reception to again take place at the beautiful Dorothy B. Oven Park. This event is a wonderful opportunity to visit with old and new friends. Come savor the delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts, primarily prepared by members to help launch the 2019-2020 Season. With our members providing refreshments, this enables us to continue keeping our dues low. You can join or renew your membership and sign up for the many fascinating interest groups. These groups are a great way to get to know each other, and they serve as the mainstay of our Club. Please bring new faculty and friends and encourage current faculty to attend the reception to familiarize them with our organization. To all who generously bring refreshments, please make sure to bring serving platters and utensils with your finger foods, and we thank you in advance.
