PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Lucy Ho’s Chinese New Year’s Dinner was wonderful. The food was delicious, and Lucy and John were gracious hosts. This is always a special, well-attended event. We had 57 people, several first time guests, and there was plenty of room to move around and visit.
The interest groups are going well. I attended La Table Francaise on the 22nd. It was their annual Soiree Crepe with the table laden with all kinds of crepes, and a wonderful, large group of members were all having a good time. I hope to get to each interest group at least once this year.
Our web page is up and current. Please go to it and see what a good job Beth Charness and Diane Olsen have done, and Neil Charness has lots of pictures for you to enjoy. Let them know if you have anything to add, or have any questions. It is: http://facultyclub.fsu.edu
Please read the articles about the following monthly events – the Film School on March 13 and the Annual Dinner on April 16.

FSU Film School
Movie & Tour of the Facilities
Please join us for a special evening at the FSU College of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts on Thursday, March 13 beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., the Film School Dean, Frank Patterson, will welcome us and provide an overview of the school and its productions. We will then view a recent student film followed by students leading tours of the building and its facilities. The school is located in the University Center, Building A. Parking is available outside the building. Since the event is taking place during Spring Break, there are no parking limitations. However, we do need a quick count of those attending this popular event ASAP so they know how many students are needed as guides for the tours. Please contact Carol Weissert either at cweissert@fsu.edu or by calling her at 297-0111.

This oral history by Lawson, an artist and former professor of art history, was written after a public showing of her nostalgic painting, based on her 1985 photos of an old grocery and jook joint destroyed in southwest Georgia’s catastrophic 1994 flood. She was encouraged to capture the stories from this small African American community and taped over 40 stories, which culminated in the publication of this book. The book cover is her painting of the jook joint.

Scholarship Update
Alice Nichols suggested at the February board meeting that we give Tamara Cowell $300 for the summer term for her to finish her degree in Actuarial Science. Tamara had her baby daughter last September and came to help with Billy Bowlegs. Her husband is also a student. The board gave a unanimous yes vote. We are grateful to all who help support our scholarships, enabling us to help these returning students improve their education and thereby their lives.
