President’s Message
Dear members of the Faculty & Friends Club, it has been a true pleasure to serve you once again as your president. It has been a great year with successful and well attended monthly events such as the Annual Welcoming Reception, the Holiday Party, the 30th Anniversary Bowlegs Race and Brunch, the Chinese New Year at Azu, the Mardi Gras Party and the Winter Dance. Our varied interest groups continue to thrive, many with a huge attendance. They are definitely the mainstay of our club.
We end the academic year with a Spring Luncheon at the Golden Eagle Country Club and hope to see many of you there for this event. Although the luncheon is the final monthly event, some of the interest groups continue to meet throughout the summer. Plans are under way for the coming year. We encourage you to invite prospective new members to join us for the various events and interest groups. We have a lot to offer, both to the university community and to the community at large. The Spring Luncheon is an excellent venue to give examples of such programs.
We thank all for your generous donations to our Faculty & Friends Club Scholarship fund, enabling us to give out five scholarships last fall and five this spring. I am copying a thank you note from one of our recipients at the end of this newsletter. Our recipients are extremely grateful for our helping them achieve their goal of a better education.
I thank you again for having the opportunity to serve you for the seventh time as your president in this great club with such phenomenal friends, and I want to give a special thank you to our wonderful board members, who have made my presidency so easy to fulfill. It has been a pleasure and a joy to work with you.

Spring Luncheon with a Musical Interlude

The subsidized cost is $16.00 per person for members ($20.00 for non-members). This includes tax, tip and non-alcoholic beverages. We will have the Club dining room to ourselves. The meal will be a buffet lunch like last year. Dale Olsen, FSU Professor Emeritus of Ethnomusicology, and Carlos Odria, a graduate student at FSU will entertain us with a variety of Brazilian, Peruvian, Arabic, Spanish, German, and American musical derivations.

Diane & Dale together with Shirley & Doug Zahn began this vibrant and always interesting group, now in its 40th year. In the Olsens’ case, their experience in the Peace Corps gave them an intense interest in other cultures and unknown places yet to explore! Having chaired this group for the past many years, Diane is requesting that another person (or persons) take over leadership of the Globetrotter Interest group in the fall. She stresses that she has enjoyed the many special programs and the opportunities to learn about much of the globe! She has enjoyed working with travel aficionados, who brought refreshments, provided great programs, shared many adventures, and . . .enjoyed traveling with them! Also, she was pleased to see how our members appreciated each other, became friends, learned travel information and hints from each other.
She wants to thank all who attended, for their continuing and willing support and for their friendship!
