June 2022 Welcome Message
Dear Faculty & Friends,
As the extremely hot and humid summer is upon us, it’s time to send some more updated information about the Club’s current activities.
The Fall Welcoming Reception is currently planned for Sunday, October 2 from 3-5 p.m. at Dorothy B. Oven Park.
The fall newsletter should be in the mail in late August and will include the membership form with the annual dues being the usual $20 per household with $15 for retirees. The form can also be found on our website https://facultyclub.fsu.edu/
Sprechen Sie Deutsch? will again bemeeting at Inga Fahs-Gieliesse’s beautiful home on Sunday, June 26 at 2:30 p.m. If you are interested in joining us please contact Annelise at aleysieffer@gmail.com.
Stammtisch is an outreach of Sprechen sie Deutsch? with the group meeting every two weeks. These days, we alternate between Harry’s on Kleman Plaza and the Wine House on Market Street at 5:30 p.m. Please let Horst Wahl know at hwahl41@gmail.com if you would like to be added to the group and please send your RSVP to Horst by the Tuesday before by 6:00 p.m.
La Mesa Española has again begun to meet under the leadership of Marion & Gerard Nimis. Please let them know at marion@statistix.com if you are interested in joining this Spanish-speaking group. La Mesa Española will pause for the summer and will meet again come September.
The Book Discussion Group is back to zoom meetings for now due to Covid-19 not slipping its grip on the country or on Tallahassee. We will next zoom on Monday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m. with Carol Weissert leading the discussion of The Rent Collector by Camron Wright. On July 18 at 7:00 p.m., the book group will discuss The Committee by Sterling Watson with the author joining us from St. Pete. Please contact Donna Meredith at meredithds@comcast.net to get added to the list of members and to get the zoom information for the meetings. When we next begin to meet in homes, we plan to FaceTime as well to enable members joining us from afar.
Our Faculty & Friends Club website almost disappeared as the College of Information has had some server issues. It was a near disaster as that is where all the history etc. dating back to 1926 has been stored over the years. Where the site was reinstated at the usual https://facultyclub.fsu.edu/, the photos have disappeared. Additionally, I am no longer able to work the site away from campus. With that in mind, Neil Charness has thankfully offered to take over.
The Investment Club interest group is currently full and doing well. With several of the members no longer living in Tallahassee, that group must of necessity continue to meet via zoom under the current leadership of Diane Stuart.
Where Stitch & Chat members continue their handwork at home, they simultaneously collect food for and deliver to several food pantries in town. We hope to soon meet again. Please contact Cherie at cheriefenstermaker@gmail.com or call her at (850) 556-1440. The same goes for La Table Française as well as for Lunch Bunch, Restaurant Roulette and Gourmet Sampler.
